Largadas: F1 Históricos

Posted Posted by Pipe in , Comments 11 comentários

There's a trick!

This isn't a GP start, but some kind of a historical race, because:

1. The Porsche pace-car at the background is a modern model.

2. The overall setting suggests a recent picture.

3. There are only seventeen cars to make up the field, while there were always a larger number of entrants between 1975 and 1985. (With the exception of some boycotted races during the early Eighties FISA-FOCA war, of course).

4. The Ferrari at the back of the field is a pre-1976 Spain GP 312 model (tall air box), while the rest of the field is more recent.

5. When did anyone saw a 1981 March leading the pack? (if I don't make any mistake, as I forgot what car used to sport the "Ragno" livery for sure - anyway even if not a March, that used to be a backmarker.)

6. If that's indeed a March, you have a much older model of the same brand further down (the "Beta" car).

7. The two Williams on the right aren't of the same model (this is still possible) and sport numbers 6 and 23 (that's more surprising).

8. The Lotus on the right seems a mid-Eighties car, much more recent than all other cars running.

9. The car most on the left is given a #68 or something - who ever saw such a number attributed in F1 since the Fifties?

10. I don't recognize most car/pilot's helmet combinations.

Finally, the only thing that isn't surprising in this picture is the position of the 1978 Merzario: dead last! (and still, I should say if it were a "real" race, it qualified...)

As for the track and year, considering all the above, it can be anywhere, anytime.

Nice try, but it didn't work! ;)

P.S. An other possibility is, obviously, is that it's a photo montage, but it would be so nicely done that I ruled this out.

To my previous comment, I'd like to add that, even if the year is still impossible to define, and though I'm abysmal at recognizing modern tracks (how to make the difference between two of them anyway?), there are some reminiscences of the old Nürburgring in this picture. I don't even know if the pits of post-1984 Ring are the same as those of the old one, but I'll stick to this answer: Nürburgring!

Rafael Oliveira.

Thanks Tohmé for refreshing my memories. Arrows was my second best choice after March for the two "Ragno" cars at the front, and I picked up the wrong one. Oops...

É, parece mesmo uma prova de históricos. O circuito parece Nurburgring.

Hi Lorenzo,
I'm impressed with your knowledge of F1. Great comments, really nice. I would never notice such details. But I really had thought that it was original, ops me...

No doubt after all that you noticed it can be concluded that this is a Historic F1. And looking at the cars I recognized that I have some photos of the tournament and are the same cars.

It seems to be really on Nurburgring, as some other friends thought too.
Thanks for participating, hope to see you here anytime.
Regards.

Thank you Pipe. I can understand your confusion as, at first sight, it could really look as an authentic GP start. Above all the organizers really succeeded in having a nice and large field entering their event.

Pipe disse...

Don't need to thanks Lorenzo, you really have a great knowlegde. And no doubt that's a nice event with beautiful and historic cars. Should be nice to watch this races.
See you.
